Try Pan-Searing Alaska Seafood for a Delicious (and Easy!) Alternative Tonight   by Allie Moxley

Alaska is known for its delicious, wild-caught seafood. Especially popular amongst restauranteurs and gourmands, fresh catches such as salmon, whitefish, and shellfish provide a healthy yet tasty basis for a variety of delectable recipes. Frying, grilling, baking, and pan-searing Alaska seafood are all excellent choices for your next dinner party, while at the same time they’re easy and quick enough to become nutritious, go-to family favorites. Pan-searing in particular has become a favorite option, because the high heat locks in moisture and flavor, while adding a deliciously textured golden crust. Pan-seared seafood can easily stand alone as a main dish, accompanied by your favorite side. Roasted corn, sautéed asparagus, and pan-fried greens all marry well with its subtly nuanced flavor.

Even novice chefs will appear connoisseurs with this tried-and-true pan-searing Alaska seafood recipe which uses salmon as a basis. For the recipe, which serves eight people, eight, six-to-eight oz. salmon filets are needed. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and heat an oven-safe saucepan for two minutes on medium-high. Add one tablespoon of olive oil, and sear the salmon filets on one side for two to three minutes. Next, turn them over and place them in the oven for four to six minutes, or until they become flaky when gently tested with a fork. Salmon’s delicate natural flavors can be appreciated alone or enhanced by your favorite sauce. A good basic accompanying sauce when pan-searing Alaska seafood involves a mixture of orange juice, boiled down until syrupy, chopped red onion, lime juice, honey-dijon mustard, and a splash of Italian salad dressing. Pour this over your choice of Alaska seafood, and you’re sure to win the approval of even the most discriminating taste buds.
In addition to the gustatory satisfaction that comes from pan-searing Alaska seafood, the nutritional benefits trump the competition. Already naturally rich in lean protein and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, pan-searing Alaska seafood is one of the healthiest methods of preparation. Unlike grilling or frying, which have been linked to carcinogen deposits and cholesterol and saturated fat concerns, respectively, pan-searing Alaska seafood preserves the nutritional benefits of wild-caught Alaska seafood without compromising taste.
